    Real Options for City Kids (ROCK) is dedicated to nurturing the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and by providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access. ROCK aims to promote the positive development and long-term success of the youth that it serves through a combination of in-school and after school learning enrichment, sports and fitness, leadership training, outdoor adventure, and summer camp opportunities.     Job Overview
     
    Title: After-School Program Assistant
     
    Description: ROCK’s after-school program is open M-F from 1:50 pm-6:00 pm at El Dorado Elementary School. During the program, K-5th grade students participate in various activities including homework help, free time, sports & fitness, service learning, arts & crafts and more.
     
    Pay: $10-13/hour depending on experience
     
    Commitment: M-Th 1:50 pm-6:00 pm through the end of school year. Must be able to fully commit to all program hours. Please note: There is potential for additional hours.
     
    Training Dates: 8/9/10 – 8/13/10 (times TBD)
     
    Start Date: 8/16/10
     

     
    Primary Responsibilities
     
    Responsibilities: The After-School Program Assistant will be responsible for the following:
     
    • Help manage a group of 20-25 participants during homework help, recreation and learning enrichment
     
    • Co-create on-going, age appropriate curriculum to be utilized during learning enrichment time
     
    • Assist in planning and facilitating age appropriate activities twice a week
     
    • Create a safe learning environment
     
    • Complete incident reports in the event of an injury
     
    • Assist in setup/cleanup o f classroom
     
    • Develop positive relationships with staff, students, teachers and parents
     
    • Communicate student’s progress to Program Director, Program Lead, El Dorado Elementary School Faculty and Parents
     
    • Be a leader and role model to children and staff
     
    • Assist Program Lead in facilitating activities for students
     
    • Attend weekly staff meetings
     
    • Assist in enrichment “Club” for 2 hours each program day (i.e. art, cooking, skateboarding, gardening, science, etc.)
     

     
    Qualifications
     
    • 1 -2 year experience in working with children
     
    • Desire to work with at-risk urban children
     
    • Sense of humor
     
    • Have a reliable means of transportation to and from program
     
    • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Cantonese and/or Samoan a plus but not required

    • WISDOM – Wisdom does not have to mean superior knowledge. It means putting the knowledge that one has to good use.
