     About the Role:

    We currently have an opportunity for a Media Relations & Marketing Communications guru, based at our Headquarters located in San Mate, California.

    The Media Relations & Marketing Communications Director will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of objectives set forth by upper management. The responsibilities of this position will center around raising the awareness of our young organization as a leader in providing a secure, high quality social education platform for the K12 with various minor & major media outlets, including individual journalist, broadcast media, news and information aggregators, and social media outlets.

    Initiatives may include, but are not limited to building and growing strong media relationships, researching and maintaining journalist relations initiatives, coordinating and hosting media events. The result of this work will be to establish Edmodo as a recognized and favorite education platform for the K12 with individual journalist, media outlets, key media organizations as well in the social media spaces.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage overall public relations and communications strategy for Edmodo.
    • Create, manage and execute the overall public relations strategy for Edmodo.
    • Draft all press releases, including key messaging and value proposition.
    • Build, update, and maintain internal Edmodo media database
    • Assist in increasing distribution to journalists across vertical industry channels at traditional media outlets (via research and other means)
    • Develop relationships with key media organizations and individual journalists (to include making daily calls to journalists)
    • Distribute press releases to non-subscribed journalists via newswires, internal electronic tools and daily calls.
    • Plan, coordinate and execute all aspects of events, including but not limited to monthly media breakfasts.
    • Research, identify and recommend best sources of targeted media data as well as media partners (including international) to maximize Edmodo news distribution
    • Assist in creating and populating new media distribution circuits.
    • Implement and master a media database. Update on an ongoing basis.
    • Respond to sales staff questions re: distribution, etc.
    • Maintain online Sales Library in Salesforce (includes electronic sales materials, training materials, competitive information, etc.).
    • Assist in Media Relations training for non-media relations staff both current and new hires.
    • Review and monitor industry newsletters, publications, etc., and distribute key information internally and externally (via email/newsletter blast). Excellent writing skills required. Proficient in desktop publishing.
    • Develop and maintain a competitive library.
    • Assist in the creation and maintenance of Edmodo product training materials (for internal audiences)
    • Represent Edmodo at key industry and association functions.

    Required Qualifications:
    The person in this position is expected to build successful independent relationships with Edmodo team members, external media, independent journalist and other news contacts outside the Emdodo organization. The individual’s written work must be of publishable quality by current journalistic standards. The individual will spend more than half of his/her time actively developing journalistic and media relationships, which requires calling on, tracking and maintaining developed contacts. Work assignments will be a combination of self-generated projects reflecting the individual’s strategic choices that are aligned with your core objectives, as well as assignments provided by the Vice President of Marketing. Travel requirements for this job will be minimal.

    The primary requirements for success include: 

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
    • Sufficient analytical skill to guide creative ability in a professional environment
    • Must be personable, approachable, detail oriented and appropriately proactive 
    • It is required that the individual have excellent database, computer application, and  Internet experience.
    • Bachelor degree is mandatory, with a preference for English, Journalism, Communications, or Liberal Arts majors.
    • Job requires a minimum of 8 years of increasingly responsible service in the fields of journalism, corporate communications, or public relations.
    • Writing samples will be required. A plus for those with 2nd language skills.

    • Has been in this role for another edu-tech organization
    • Is a recognized media figure in the educational or educational technology space
    • Has taught in the K12!
