Responsibilities will include: Assist in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through interface with project management/supervisory personnel and improving safety measures
Assist in supervision and administration of safety/first aid and rescue squad activities. Assume total responsibility for safety operation when assigned to shift work.
Participate in developing and conducting staff and craft safety orientation training, 10 hours OSHA, all fork-lift training in English and Spanish.
Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling test for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations.
Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities.
Accompany safety, health and insurance inspections on walk through tours as required,
Review safety related journals, catalogs, etc to keep abreast of changes/improvements in protective safety equipment, materials and gear.
Maintain OSHA log 300, 300a, 301 monthly
Preparing paper work on OSHA citations, informal conference and appeals process.
Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Purchase safety equipment for safety orientation, all jobsites when needed.
Locate occupational clinics and hospitals close to all jobsites.
Work closely with all subcontractors making sure they have all safety manuals and follow all safety procedures.
Some traveling is required out of state and throughout the State of California.
Update foremen/Management during monthly meetings on new safety topics.
Set up job hazard analysis before project starts, making sure that all jobsites have all required OSHA postings, labor laws, and first aid kits.Education/experience requirements for position:
• Certificate for 30 hour OSHA and/or OSHA 500 course including First Aid and CPR Training
• Four years occupational safety/health degree or equivalent plus 3-4 years of construction experience.
• Advance knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations required.
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is required
• Computer knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Accounting Software.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
