    We are looking for an Editor to join our award-winning editorial team at The Praetorian Group, which operates the leading news and information websites for U.S. first responders. The position is with EMS1.com. The ideal candidate has a strong background in a news environment (online preferred), the ability to make decisions that impact overall editorial focus, and a high attention to detail in editing and writing. Experience in public safety a big plus

    The Praetorian Group is the leading online media and technology company in the public safety market. Our online properties are visited by 2.2 million first responders and public safety professionals every month. Praetorian owns and operates www.PoliceOne.com, www.FireRescue1.com, www.EMS1.com, and www.CorrectionsOne.com, along with a dozen other public safety focused sites.

    We need someone who can come in and quickly immerse themselves in the EMS market, developing industry relationships and subject matter expertise. Key qualifications include the ability to identify industry trends, work closely with our team of columnists and industry advisors, construct and manage an editorial agenda, quickly develop technical skills and learn new applications, generate high quality content, and display a high level of interest in becoming a subject matter expert in regard to first responders and their content needs.

    This position presents a unique opportunity to drive the editorial direction of some of the leading websites in public safety while working closely with some of the best writers and subject matter experts in their respective fields.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor's degree in Journalism or significant Journalism experience
    • Practical editorial experience in an online or print editorial role (min. 2-5 years)
    • A sharp editorial eye and exceptional attention to detail
    • Ability to identify industry trends and generate coverage to address them
    • Command of AP Style, including headline and caption writing
    • Regular writing/reporting experience
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent computer/technical skills
    • A strong working knowledge of HTML and/or Web design
    • Solid understanding of and interest in online technologies that support online media
    • Public Safety experience a bonus

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Manage overall editorial direction of website
    • Creatively drive improvements to editorial features on website
    • Manage flow of news content on website
    • Copy edit all expert columns and original site content
    • Regularly write articles for website
    • Oversee production of bi-weekly member eNewsletter, as well as specialty eNewsletters
    • Occasional travel opportunities to cover industry trade shows
    • Work closely with columnists to schedule and/or refine content
    • Closely monitor news and current events relevant to public safety
    • Monitor industry trends and technology
