Financial Analyst- Private Banking (palo alto)

  • Position Summary
    The team manages wealth for individuals with $10 mil + in liquid assets, primarily company founders, venture capitalists and private equity partners. The team is part of the private banking division at Merrill Lynch, which is dedicated to the needs of ultra high net worth individuals. The Wealth Analyst assists the Financial Advisory team in implementing the wealth management process by gathering, comparing, analyzing, and communicating investment research data to both the team and clients in order to facilitate the investment allocation process. Wealth Analysts are also responsible for learning about the various investment platforms, products, and services within the firm and understanding how they can be utilized to meet a client’s investment needs and goals. The Analyst will be involved in: Portfolio Analysis, Investment Oversight, Relationship Management and Execution, and Client Acquisition.

    Responsibilities
    • Review, research, understand, and communicate market trends and their impact on various investment products as they relate to client portfolios
    • Coordination with specialist teams in the firm for asset allocation, manager selection and overall investments views
    • Monitor client portfolios by reviewing investment allocations, comparing performance of various mutual funds, hedge funds, and third party money managers against appropriate benchmarks
    • Analyze client portfolios on a periodic basis with the Financial Advisor to determine if portfolio re-balances are needed
    • Access various internal applications to monitor and identify investment managers whose performance may require investigation
    • Understand the firm’s various investment platforms by participating in conference calls, attending investment manager meetings, and sharing with the Financial Advisor new developments
    • Create Monthly Performance Reports by gathering client investment data (i.e. securities owned by a client) and develop a customized book that presents their securities benchmarked against comparable indexes
    • Research and gather information on client prospects using publicly available resources
    • Create customized pitch books that meet each prospects unique investment needs and interests

    • Utilize ML research as well as outside resources to build asset allocation spreadsheets in Excel
    • Attend new prospect meetings
    • May execute trades on behalf of the client based on instructions from the Financial Advisor
    • Take part in professional designations, continuing education

    Qualifications
    • Ideal candidate will have one to four years of experience with an investment bank/asset management firm or management consulting
    • High GPA from a top tier school
    • Highly motivated, analytical and detail oriented
    • Comfortable in an intense and fast-paced environment
    • Excellent communication skills; accurately and clearly communicate in oral and written form with clients, FA, management and other support staff
    • General knowledge of financial services industry, products, and/or services
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Series 7 & 66 licenses preferred
