Lab Operations Manager

  • We are an exciting start-up company using advanced technologies such as optogenetics, physiology, imaging, and behavior to develop therapies for neurological diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Operations Manager responsible for managing a rodent facility that maintains rodent breeding and experimental colonies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • setting up and running the lab and animal facilities, including transgenic capabilities;
    • care and maintenance of animals
    • obtaining approval for all lab related activities (animal and general lab compliance);
    • organizing and participating in Institutional Animal Care Use Committee (IACUC) (animal procedure compliance) meetings;
    • environmental health and safety compliance;
    • setting up and performing in vivo procedures;
    • organ identification and extraction;
    • toxicology and immunogenicity studies;
    • overseeing operation and maintenance of the facility’s surgical suite
    • making sure that sterile supplies are stocked and that housekeeping and sanitation practices are consistently performed;
    • ensuring the chemical room, instrument room and support spaces are cleaned and stocked with supplies;
    • coordinating resources for implementation of animal studies; and
    • interfacing on a regular basis with lead scientific staff to organize, coordinate, schedule and execute experimental work. This may include designing, performing, and presenting experimental paradigms.

    Intricate knowledge and experience in the following procedures is a definitive advantage: animal injections, dosing, use of viral vectors, necropsy, whole animal perfusion, tissue and organ harvesting and blood collection, PCR-based genotyping and analysis of data for colony management related to multiple genetically modified strains, and animal surgery.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a field related to biomedical research or animal sciences or minimum four (4) years related experience in in lieu of degree. Master’s degree is a plus.
    • Minimum of (3) years of progressively responsible technical, technically-related administrative experience or animal facility management experience.
    • Significant industry experience and in vivo expertise is desired.
    • Excellent judgment and organizational skills in order to effectively manage a significant and complex workload.
    • Strong communication skills that enable the individual to interact with all levels of management, technical and scientific personnel.
    • Working knowledge of applicable policies, guidelines and regulations that govern the care and use of animals in a research environment.
    • Advanced computer skills (Mac/PC, Microsoft Office).
    • Work will require the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols that the Lab Operations Manager has to ensure from all lab personnel.
