This position is for a temporary engagement through our staffing partner WorkForceLogic. The anticipated duration of this engagement is 4-6 months. The duration of the assignment cannot exceed 12 months.
Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC’s Legal & Business Affairs Department has immediate need for a senior-level attorney for a 4-6 month project (with potential for an extended assignment) with high-level legal expertise in the area of domestic and global/international privacy issues. The expertise needed includes expertise and knowledge of laws and regulations, as well as best practices, concerning data security (including data security breach)and consumer privacy (including data transfer). This position will initially be a key member of a project team to manage and advise on a data management project of international scope, which will require harmonizing existing privacy policies and data management procedures across an international group of companies.
- Must have excellent knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and best practices impacting data security, data transfer, consumer privacy, including but not limited to fluency with Federal Trade Commission decisions, complaints and settlements related to consumer privacy, data collection, transfer and privacy and COPPA; expertise/knowledge in FTC international counterparts a significant plus
- Must be an excellent drafter, including both the ability to produce high-quality work product and the ability to do so quickly and efficiently
- Must enjoy working in a team environment, with and supporting other lawyers to brainstorm and collaborate on theories and approaches to drafting privacy-related consumer-facing language and harmonizing existing language
- Must have exceptional project management and communication skills
- Must have the ability and comfort level to ask clear, concise, precise questions that often involve complex technological, factual and legal matters related to the subject matter of privacy and data management and to extract requisite answers from business and Legal Department colleagues
- Must have strong organizational skills with regard to organizing and ordering various rules and regulations related to privacy and data security in numerous jurisdictions
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, meaning the ability to establish confidence and trust relationships groups external to SCEA, as well as foster and perpetuate a strong project team environment
- Must have strong analytical and strategic abilities with regard to applying the framework of domestic and international privacy and data management laws/regulations to come up with a cost-effective and administratively intelligent approach to the data management project
Required Experience/Education:
- Must have a law degree from an accredited law school or equivalent
- Must be a current member in good standing of the California State Bar
- At least 10 years of privacy and data management legal experience
- Experience drafting or litigating privacy policies or consumer-facing or vendor agreements with privacy or data security provisions
- Experience working with international counterparts/business partners in Europe and Japan
Preferred Experience/Education:
- At least 15 years legal experience, with a mix of private practice and in-house experience in the areas described above
- Litigation experience with respect to privacy policies or consumer-facing or vendor agreements with privacy or data security provisions
