LS9 seeks a highly motivated Senior Process Development Engineer to develop commercial processes for sustainable, value added renewable chemicals made from LS9’s fermentation-derived compounds to serve a wide range of applications and markets. The candidate will work with other members in a multidisciplinary environment to design and evaluate potential chemical synthesis, separation and recovery processes for different renewable chemical products. The candidate must have good working knowledge of chemical engineering unit operations and hands-on experience with process equipment. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is goal -oriented with the ability to perform safely in a fast paced environment. This highly visible position is based in South San Francisco CA.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop hands-on bench and pilot scale commercially-viable processes for specialty chemical production.
• Work with LS9 development and engineering staff to develop commercial scale process flows
• Work at contract manufacturing sites to produce product and confirm process robustness
• Work with outside collaborators to define product uses and specifications
• Generate samples for internal and external testing
• Continuously develop contributions to the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
Qualifications and Requirements:
BS/MS /PhD in Chemical Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant industrial experience. Practical knowledge of conventional chemical unit operations (e.g. extraction, distillation, reactor design) is mandatory. Must have developed bench-top processes and translated them to pilot scale. Experience in a manufacturing facility and knowledge of contract manufacturing operations is highly desirable.
